Default Power Window Switch C2

It appears that my switch has finally given up the ghost. I know that in the past the repro switch's had a serious problem of shorting out. Supposedly they were correcting the problem, and retooling them. Does anybody know if this was ever done, and are the switch's now reliable?

IIRC some have taken those original switches apart and repaired them....might do a forum search before going repro...

They can be taken apart and repaired, as I had a friend do the ones on my 67 and 59. All 3 continue to work great. I'm not sure what he did to them (cleaning, internal parts replacement, etc.)

I believe Willcox Corvette, inc. had a repair video on their website for the power window switch. Geez, I don't have a link for you. I watched it - it was an excellent video. The repair is very simple. Try to look into this it could save you a lot of expense and hassle.

I believe that this has been done. Can't remember the name of the company that is making them.

If none replies, you can check LICS. If anyone has them, they would be the one.

Larry

EDIT: LICS shows a new repro switch as of Oct 2012.

I checked with Zip, and the new switch's have been completely retooled and have been available since Oct. 2012. They are reliable and they said they have had no issues with them. Also, LIC's does carry the re-tooled switch's. Found the video at Wilcox's site. It's for a single C3 switch, but I assume the C2 repair is pretty much the same. The hardest part apparently is bending back the tab's without breaking them. I'm going to take mine switch apart, and see the condition of the contacts inside. After 45 years of service, it might be time to retire it.......thanks for the responses.

Yeah, it's done in the same manner.... and if the tabs break just select a new place to punch it over. There's plenty of material there. My bet is that you can fix this switch for little or nothing.... aside from the time.

I am replacing the wiring harness in my 61, which has power windows. The windows get their power from the starter solinoid circuit breaker on the firewall, according to Lectric Lmtd. Where do I get the hot lead that feeds the circuit breaker??
Sorry but I'm not too good on forums and I don't know how to start a NEW question, so I replied on this.

I remember looking at some caddy window switches and recall they looked like they would work. So check out other GM models for used switches.

There was a 12 gauge red wire (with two eyelet terminals on it) that ran from the B terminal off the starter to the lug on the 40 amp circuit breaker mounted on the firewall.

Actually I made up a jumper and installed it today. From what I can tell I connect the power lead for the power windows to the other side of the circuit breaker. Do you know if that circuit breaker is used for anything other than power windows?
Thanks
Bill

The breaker was a 40 amp breaker but it sure looked a lot like the 30 amp power window breaker used on the 68 and newer cars. The original use was on power windows and power tops only.

Since the later style motors are used as a replacement for the 58-62 cars, I don't think there would be any issue using the breaker below.

Thanks again, I've owned a few older vets but never had one with power windows and they're not working well. This will be challenging
