Default Question on new door panel install.

Starting to get my plans in place for installing the interior on my 65 and have a "what works for you guys" question.

The Corvette America Deluxe 65 Door Panels come without the door lock or window crank holes pre drilled. Before I start hacking away on a $500 door panel I would like to know what tool you guys have used to cut these holes in with.

Thanks, Dennis

I would use a hole cutter that is used in making grommets for tarps, etc. Just a thought.

I used a hole saw slightly bigger then the shaft.

A stepped unibit works nicely

Dennis:

The trick with the hole saw (for the window crank) is to run it BACKWARDS --no snags.

For the lock **** (and the screw holes under the armrest), I use a heated prybar (the kind with the tapered round shaft) to burn the hole. As the vinyl melts back, it gives you a kind of reinforcement ring. Much less likely to tear, compared to cutting the hole with an X-acto. This trick (with a Phillips screwdriver) is also the way to make holes in your carpet. No loose fibers to get wound up on the screw.

FWIW - Mike
