Default What is your definition of an original car

What is your definition of an original car. I'll be putting my car in Ebay this spring and want to advertise it as an original car but, if the upholstery is new, the paint is new and other small items, is it an original car.

Nope a original car to me is all it's important parts and paint is are as it left the factory. With only maintenance items replaced.

After you paint it and put new interior it's a minor restoration that's done to original

What is left of the car that is original?

Sounds like it is refurbished, not original. Probably a nice car though.

If your car still has most of it's original components you could certainly advertise it as having those (original motor, transmission, rear end etc, etc.), but to refer to it as "original" IMO would require that it be in unrestored condition.

I wouldn't even use the term "original" at all. Just say what has and has not been changed and let the buyer decide what the state of the car is.

Original -----> belonging or pertaining to the origin or beginning of something, or to a thing at its beginning.

Well,

Restored to as original.

or, mostly original with some restoration, or

Original with new paint and upholstery, but maintained.

There, three opinions/options in one post.

No one will believe your description anyway** (with good reason),and a bunch of people will imply you are a liar by their questions, and some will want photos of the tire valve stems, and others will bombard you with endless questions, and either not bid, or offer to buy it at 50% of the starting bid.

Edit; ** not implying you are a liar about the condition, but it seems every car I have looked at has been misrepresented or problem items not addressed, and others will have had the same experience, so they assume you are lying.

Doug

To me original means the way it was new from the factory. I consider my 66 an original car with the exception of having the nose resprayed. It's nearly impossible to have an all original car. I still have original belts and hoses, but replaced the radiator hose because it had lost its arch and was starting be cut by the belt. These people who say a car is a survivor and then proceed to tell you it has been repainted confuse me.

Another good point is how long are these "original" cars gonna stay original? For instance my car only has 25k miles on it but time is no friend to rubber hoses and belts etc. It kind of confuses me to. Kind of like the "matching" number engine vs. the "original" engine.

It's all relative, but I consider my 62 Bowtie to be an original. Interior & Exterior exceeded 90% and Chassis & Mechanical exceeded 85%. Overall average 90%. It was judged at the NCRS convention in July. As I say, "it is what it is", and nothing more. I'm more excited about finding it! Picture taken at the Lone Star Regional. (forgot my camera for the national).

I disagree, as that would mean 11 would have to be in agreement. No way.

I believe it means that 11 would have more than one opinion.

Advertise it like it is:

Old Chevy for sale, new paint, new upholstery. No rust or dents in body.

Original to me means the car is presented as it looked when it left the factory. It could have a repaint, new interior, and a new ragtop and still could be an original car......as long as the color, didn't change. The same car with the original factory installed paint, interior, and top would be a survivor
