Surprised by a "wave" this afternoon
I got a "thumbs up" wave from a lady driving a Smart Car today.
Yes, I did verify that it was her thumb and not some other digit on her hand.
And, yes, of course I returned the wave.

She prob just put a wet finger in the air to test wind direction. If it was a head wind it adds 20% more travel time in one of those "pregnant.roller skates".

I always wave.................
Then afterward I remember that I am not usually in the Vette.
Such is life.................
Hope the OP waved back, because she sure could have a 427 in the garage for fun.

Appreciation can come from any driver. It just goes to show. I look like any other 30-something snot driving my little Beemer to pick up the kids. You never know when there's a "car guy" or gal noticing you!

Waves, thumbs up, honks and picture taking is great. What gets scary is when they follow you to your destination. The other day I drove the 62 over to a friends garage to get some welding done and had some woman follow me there just to ask what color my car was.

Did you ask her a similar question?
Probably should have.
Did you answer "Red?"
Yes.
Just not used to having women follow me around. Normally the wife is always with me when I'm out with 62.. I guess all 5' of her scares them off.

At a light one time a guy in a pickup truck yelled over "You must feel like a kid again in that car." I assured him that I do feel like a kid in that car but my age exceeds "kiddom".

Of course, I liken it to being in a phone booth going that fast.

I think maybe because I am so new to the Corvette Brotherhood, I am not as jaded as some.... and I love talking about my car and Corvettes in general. As i have said in other posts, I bought my car last year, restored it during the winter, and got it on the road this past August.
In the short time its been on the road, I've let buddies drive it, strangers sit in it, and have answered probably the same 3 or 4 questions hundreds of times already...
I am 47, and my high school years were spent in the 80s... at that time, seeing a C2/C1 on the road was pretty rare... fast forward 20 years and... well, you know. So I take any opportunity to be a kind of "ambassador" for the Corvette, and encourage the dreamers to make plans to be owners.
Plus, I am an American living in Germany... that adds another wrinkle. You would be surprised though at how much respect there is for Corvettes here. I have had about 4 Grown German men (in there 30s-40s) stop to tell me that I am driving THEIR dream car.
I am in the habit now of waving to any vintage car I see, whether or not I am in my Corvette or not...
because ownership of any classic car is, in a sense, a brotherhood. You gotta be crazy to do this right?
And that kind of crazy deserves at least a wave or thumbs up in my book.

I wave to bikers and anybody with an old car or truck. The following behind thing is nerve wracking tho. I.get people 3 feet off my bumper at 60mph trying to get that "bucket list " picture of the split wimdow's backside. I usually give them a different type of wave.

About a month ago, my buddy (66 Coupe) and I were out driving our cars together. A C6 passed us going the other way, and he turned around and caught up with us... and drove with us for a few minutes. My Marina Blue 67, a 66 Coupe, and a Bright Yellow C6 all going down the road together.
It doesn't sound like much to you jaded veterans. But here in Germany, I have never even seen another C2 (except for mine and my buddies) in the 11 years I have been here.

Boy, talk about cynical responses. I think that is great you got a thumbs up. People just sometimes drive different cars than what they are passionate about. My brother-in-law drives a Prius but has a 599 GTO he rarely brings out.
