Default How much coolant to add

This will sound like a really dumb question, but what is the correct level for the coolant in my '66 BB with no overflow tank? It needs some room to expand, so, just covering the top fins or ?? thanx steve

There should be a line and markings on the outside of the rad, several inches below the filler neck.

I don’t own a BB, but if my memory serves me correctly, I believe original radiators had a “Full Cold” line on the side tank. I assume your radiator does not have the line. The Cooling System Care section of the ’67 Owner’s Manual says the coolant level should be 3” below bottom of filler neck when cold.

It might be a little messy, but if you want to fill it to 1” below the filler neck, it will find it’s “correct level” after a few driving cycles and burping a couple of times.

I agree with Mike76.
Fill it close to the top, let it idle and when it heats up it will puke out any excess water and find it's correct level

thanx guys...I'll have to check to see if there's a mark on the side...it's a correct Dewitt's. I thought about just letting it seek it's own "correct" level and will probably do just that. thanx again. s

Default Coolant Level

If I remember correctly, the words "fill cold" should be embossed in the tank an inch or two below the radiator cap.
