Default 61 steering play

I would like to take some play out of my steering if possible.
I have to turn the wheel to far either way before I get any response.
Front end in great shape, new radials, gas shocks and fast steering adapter.

Do you have the ST-12 C-1 manual?
It has a detailed explanation of the the procedure.

Joe (plaidside) is correct....but you have to follow that procedure precisely...get too carried away and you can ruin a good steering box....

If worm and roller and bearings are in good shape and adjusted properly there will be no to very minimal free play in the straight ahead position. As you turn the wheel off center play increases but that is the way that they were engineered and cannot be adjusted out. I replaced the gears and bearings in mine about 6 years ago and in the straight ahead position I have max 1/2" of free play in the wheel. 2", in my opinion, is too much to be considered normal.

No. If the steering linkage is good and the box is centered on the 'high spot' and adjusted properly there should be no play.
