I know you only said that just to get a rise out of your friends here on the CF, but really, you should be ashamed of yourself for that. I would sooner take your 70 from you and throw a coat of purple paint on it just for giggles.

I think I remember seeing it in Vette Vues magazine in the 80s for about $10,000.

If the guy advertising in NCRS Drivelines that's asking $1.425 mil for the first '65 396 and $1.072 mil for Neil Armstrong's '67 gets ahold of it, he'll ask $1.2 mil. He's got the '65 listed as "425/396hp," and both have been for sale for a LONG time. Neither one mentions "numbers matching." Oh well, who knows? It supposedly is the only C2 #001. I'd check that closely if I was a bidder. If two bidders really want it, and they have stupid amounts of money to waste, you never know how far they'll go.

Love that color combo. What would be the build date code? I was born 1 day later on Aug 7th '64. Would love to have one with the same birthday.

The NCRS Restorer Magazine did an article on this car when it surfaced in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1978. There are pictures of the vin and trim tag.

I started a thread on this car back in 2010

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...sells-for.html

It crossed the block 4 times in less than 6 months:

1. Nov 2010 McDorman's auction sold for 70k

2. A few weeks later, Mecum Kanas, "sold"

3. Jan 29 2011 Kissimmee, didnt make reserve at 67.5k

4. May 18 2011 Indy Mecum, Pro Team buys it at 66k

Then on July 14 2013, Bob McDorman open his corvette museum and states he now owns the corvette.

One of the comments in the 2010 thread states that it has a NOM. If that's true, then $60-$70K sounds about right.

Agreed. Being the first 65 is a fun oddity- but not worth silly multiples of what a similar car would bring.

I don't think that I would want #000001. I'm sure that it takes about a 100 of them before they figure how to assemble then correctly. Especialy if it was made on Mon. morning or Fri afternoon.
