C2 Split Window Corvette Barn Find
I have come across the opportunity to purchase a 1963 Corvette Split Window which has been in storage for many years. It has been registered with the current owner for more than 45 years. It is a complete car (from what I can make out from the single picture I was sent) its finished in riverside Red, excellent paint, knock-off wheels, black interior, 327 (currently not running), all of the body fit seems excellent along with the bumpers, doors etc.. I will be going out to see the car sometime in the early New Year and would like to bring cash in my pocket to buy the car on my first visit as is where is. Can someone give me an idea of what this Corvette is worth... I know that there are many "things" that determine the specific value of any car, I don't have the specifics other than the picture and a few words from the owner who has health problems and cannot speak very well. Any help would be appreciated, price range is fine.

I know this doesn't really answer your question, but with the prices, even with non original engines, being all over the place, the bottom line seems to be around 50K for a nice unrusted complete 63 SWC. But as always the true value is whatever you, or someone else, are willing to spend.
Remember...you asked,

Thanks for the replies, this is what I was thinking as well. From what I can gather this car is extremely original, #'s matching and has been well maintained for most of its life. I will let you know how I make out & will post pictures if I purchase the car.

If all of that is true then, mucho mas dinero.

Some will depend on options too. If its a fuelie, or original AC, will add lots more value. Most other stuff will depend on condition and all that matching numbers mumbo jumbo. If the engine is seized, I'm guessing bottom would be 35-40k if everything seems legit. If it runs, it should be no less than 50k. If all the major components match, paint in good condition, well maintained, the sky is the limit from there. 63 SWC is one of the Holy Grails of Corvettes, so good luck.

As Frankie and many others, including me, have said- whatever you do, bring a trailer, rope, pull strap, whatever you have to do to and get that car out of his sight as soon as the transaction is completed. Even if you have to drag it on four flat tires. Been there done that.

I'd be on a road trip ASAP to seal the deal. I missed two SWCs by being a little too late on the trigger before I landed mine

Assuming all the usual suspects are OK (frame, birdcage, and all the hard to find 63 bits), Just from the poking around I have done, its $50K easy.
Ask the seller, "What are you looking to get for it?", or "What do you NEED to get for it?. before you suggest anything. $35K Cash in a briefcase looks nice. (but have another $15K ready to go... just in case.

Unless this guy lives under a rock...he knows what the value of his car is. He also knows that SWC barn finds are few and far between...SOOOOOOOOOOOO, bring your briefcase full of cash and a trailer!!!
The only question is, what re you willing to pay for it??
Pictures are a MUST...or this never really happened!!!

Don't forget the pictures we want to see how you did.
Tell him also you have to restore a lot of it and that runs into bug bucks ,try to get a good deal any way. Look at frame and birdcage and body damage Good luck !

Post the 1 pic that you have! You would be amazed at how much the members on here can point out from just one picture.
Also if he is real sick and heading towards the end of his life cash might not be the most important aspect of this deal. He has owned it 45 years and I'm sure he is scared someone is gonna swoop in and either abuse it or flip it for alot more money. I would try to build a relationship with him and see how it goes. I never have been the "throw the money down on the hood" guy. I'm 2 out of 3 taking the slow road, and I could have had the 3rd one but someone offered alot more money than it was worth. Good luck!

I'm often blown away at what people on this forum can see in a car from just one picture.

I'll agree with Jason on this one. It might not be about the money to this guy... so $35K is as good a starting point for a non running car that we know nothing about except the few details provided by the OP.
Have more, of course, but try to build the relationship. Assure him that its going to a good home and not just somebody who will flip at his expense.
Pictures!... did we say pictures yet?
