57 instrument clusters fogging
hello,
on occasion the instrument clusters will fog on the inside glass...not all the time however...outside humidity? also the gauges do not light well even with light switch turned up all the way...are there brighter bulbs on the market....pull bulb out and it looks like it should lite gauges fine...any suggestions? thanks.....

Hope you dont have a heater leaking on/in your pass. foot well...

My '61's "small" gauges will occasionally fog, say in a steamy Florida rain storm or the like....they clear up shortly and no harm done. Weak dash lights could be due to old wiring or corrosion in the rheostat that dims them...which you could try cleaning up.

Some of the gauges on my '57 also tend to fog on an early spring day. Usually the fog is gone after a few miles. This is a common problem on C1s, particularly the early ones.

Both of my 57's did the same thing - they all do, under the right conditions; don't worry about it.

I wonder if anybody has ever tried a thin layer of dumdum around the outer edge of the housing as a sealant to solve the problem. If referring to that part of the housing where there is a figure 8 piece that is crimped to the main part of the housing.

Thanks for the info............Greenville is about 80 miles from coast...believe Troy is located in blue ridge mountain area...
