Default OCD details- expansion tank inspection number?

I was looking at a series of photos I've taken of '63 cars, mostly Flight and Bloomington cars, and many have a green number decal on the expansion tank, either an "8" or a "3."

I looked this up in the NCRS JG and it makes reference to a number placed there, "either one or 2 green numbers attached to the radiator and the expansion tank." No more detail.

Some catalogs show the 3 as the radiator decal and the 8 as the expansion tank. Most of the pics I have that show the decal shows the 3 on the tank.

Anyone have any info on this completely pointless unimportant detail?

It makes the car much more valuable to OCD sufferers.

It is not.
IIRC, I referred to LICS's diagram showing various sticker placement locations. I trust Richie Cohen's judgement more than most of the other vendors with the possible exception of Dr.Rebuild.
I placed the numeral "3" on the top of the radiator near the Harrison label.
The plastic expansion tank is not original either.

...........and YES it's supposedly safer if the knife switch is placed on the negative terminal...................
