Default Removing previous dye

Several weeks ago there was a discussion regarding interior parts that had too much paint on parts. There were suggestions on what products were safe to use in order to get back to original vinyl pattern. I have not been able to find that original post. Does anyone remember it?
Thanks Ernie

You might PM Mike Coletta on here. He and I removed several layers of a bad dye job off my '63 dash pads and waterfall with a chemical he keeps around. We scrubbed the snot out of that pad with scratchy pads and this stuff to prep it for the follow-on dye job. I really don't remember what it was but it worked great and didn't hurt anything...

Is this hard plastic vinyl or soft vinyl? I once cleaned old dye off of some Plymouth hard plastic parts with lacquer thinner and a scrub brush without any problem. But I would test it on some out-of-sight piece first.
