Default Shifter Hole Size in Fiberglass For a '57

I need to repair the hole in the shifter area on my car:

Does someone have the exact measurements of the shifter hole cutout in the fiberglass? If I can determine that, I figured I could then use the shifter plate and some pictures to get it figured out for repair and re-forming the ashtray recess.

Thanks- Rich

It looks like there is a indication where the rear shifter plate screw hole was. The light color Bondo.
Take the plate and line it up with the rear hole and see how it fits.
That should give you the possible location.
I will try and get some pictures tomorrow.

Bruce, the light dots behind the hole are the rivets for the steel shield in the tunnel. The only reference point I've got (besides those) is that part of the shifter side of the hole still has a factory edge, so I can use that for a guide if I have the cutout dimension. Then maybe the distance to the ashtray recess and I'd be able to get pretty close. I appreciate the help!

I hope that someone will post a pic of an original hole with a tape measure in it.
My tunnel has been drastically "modified" to the extent that the carpet won't even fit.

Why not just replace the tunnel? It will end up much nicer and things will fit. Just my two cents worth. Good luck Mike

Default Tunnel pics and dimensions.

Rick,
Attached are some pictures of the tunnel in in my 57.
I think the best bet is to start at the rear tunnel screw and locate the shifter plate holes.
From there you can estimate the shifter and ashtray holes.
My pictures are not very good but the diagram I made should get you there.
Contact me if you need more info.
I might have to attach more pictures to another post.

Bruce, that is more than I ever hoped for! I think that is plenty of info to get it done. I owe you at least a couple of cold ones!

OC-1, thanks to you too for your pics. Looks like I've got my project for the week lined up.
