Non tilt (standard) '67 steering column

Default Non tilt (standard) '67 steering column

Title should read "Non-Telescoping"..... While doing some work on my '67, it required me to pull the steering column and disassemble it. Reassembly was straight forward and done. Out of curiosity while paging through the factory service manual, steering section I noticed something wrong. This could really confuse a novice owner working on the steering column. Especially if there is a time lapse between disassembly and reassembly. Look on page 9-25, Fig 51. It shows the assembly with the wires going through the bearing housing and the upper flange...WRONG! The wiring cannot go through the bearing assembly since the bearing is fitted to the column shaft. The wire does not, and cannot go through the flange, it passes by it in the cutout area. I wonder how many other examples are wrong. I hope this is a help to someone. Dennis

I don't know if you are aware of them, but Jim Shea (former systems engineer for Saginaw) has a website and many steering papers full of detail and helpful information. He mentions some of the errors in the '67 Service Manual. His website is located at:
