Default New Member Searching VIN History 1961 C1

I am a new member. Hello to all. I am searching and trying to put together a history on a 1961 C1 that I am purchasing. I do know that NCRS is a good place to start and as soon as I can I will get the paperwork that they have, but in the meantime does anyone have any leads for VIN number 110012

Thanks in advance!

Jim

Welcome, good to see another 1961 come to the forum. Looks to be a late production. Is it restored to original specs?

Good luck

You can search the VIN in www.c1registry.com as a start.....
The Virginia DMV won't be any help with new privacy laws and record purge criteria.
Lots of posts on here about this topic if you search the forum...

Welcome to the 61 club. You will find this site invaluable. Ask just about any question and someone has knowledge on the subject. I do like the white coves.

Jim - Welcome to the Corvette Forum. Nice looking 61, once you have it, let's hear the rest of the story on your new Vette. As for NCRS paperwork, if you're referring to the Shipping Data Report, I'm pretty sure they only have info starting some time during the 62 model year and extending out to about 1975 Corvettes so unfortunately those of us with earlier Vettes are out of luck. My 61 is VIN #2000 and the only history I have is that I bought it from a family from Austin Texas that owned it since '74 and they bought it from someone down near Texas City.

Re NCRS if the paperwork to which you refer is the dearlership where the car was sold, be aware that the info begins with late 1962.

For starters, Google the VIN - you never know what will pop up.

I actually did that with another one I was considering buying but after seeing it go through 4 auctions in 5 years, I passed that one by

I did Google the new one and nothing came up except the current seller...alas, it will be a long and difficult process to trace this one to its origins..

Why do you believe the car was not acceptable for going through 4 auctions in five years ? Money drives the hobby. Most auctions won't list cars with serious problems ( title, vins, ect ). Some pay too much and want out, others have financial problems, and some are flippers adding a few details and hope to make an extra buck. Many times no reflection on the cars condition.
If you don't know how to read the tell tale signs when buying an expensive machine its well worth an extra set of eyes. Judge the car on its merits, .... not the owners intentions or the great paint which may hide a multitude of repairs. Buyers remorse lasts a very long time. Do your home work and don't depend on rose colored glasses.

I actually did do a lot of checking on that car...the biggest red flag: the VIN tag was not the original and the seller could not offer an explanation of why...

What a great looking car. Welcome aboard and yes there is a ton of super information in the brains of some great members. Use it as needed. And BTW...your car was built probably on the same day or the day before mine 110106

I saw yours in the C1 Registry, but it listed it as "no present owner" Nice one.
