Hey Jerry I just checked the C1 Registry and thought I hit pay dirt until I saw it was you who posted the VIN. I did the same thing for my 1960 on the registry last year in an attempt to locate it but no luck so far. I owned from 1974 to 1976 when I was a very young man. It was VIN# 0062.

The car has been bouncing around the show circuit since at least 2009. The car is an NCRS Top Flight, Bloomington Gold winner, and is now an original 270hp car

If you (the OP) have the VIN, you might want to make an additional post in the ORPHAN VIN-stamped parts thread at the top of the main page, in the Stickys.

The VIN is my car. It was stolen from me in Tulsa Oklahoma in 1998. This is not original color or drive train. i have the documentation. The is a made up car. So much for NCRS verification process. Where is justice in a system that lets thieves get away with this.

Now, to be clear, the "thieves" may have had nothing to do with this. If the car was recovered by the insurance company, and then sold, it is no longer a stolen car (and I suspect that this is what happened).
I don't know the history of this car, but it clearly is a well done restoration.

The insurance company owned the car at that point. If the car was recovered, and subsequently sold, it is no longer a stolen car.

Yes, it sucks. But the car is judges as presented, and apparently this car presented well.

Those are really the only things that will factor into any future issues about this car.

Oh, wow.
Stolen FI car, now original numbers 270 2x4 car.
This sounds like a mess for somebody.
If you have the title, and didn't sell the car to the ins co, and have copy of the police report, or can get it from the police, It looks like you own a nicely restored '61 Corvette.
But, since the car looks like it was POS when stolen, as an honest person, when the owner is found and the car impounded, i would just hold the new owner up for about what the value of the car was when it was stolen (probably not a huge amount), plus inflation, rather than taking the new innocent owner to the cleaners and taking the entire car

Looking at the condition of the car when stolen, I highly doubt it was insured. Just my $0.02.
