Here's my '61. It was stored in an airplane hangar since 1992. Appears to be mostly original paint.....lots of chips and scrapes. Looks good at 10-15 feet, though, and looks much better in photos. I'm in the process of getting it running with no plans on repainting it. The interior is original, too. Thank goodness it was stored inside most or all of its life and is a California car, so no rust or corrosion issues.

A question on your Bowtie car
Hi Dave, I saw your beautiful cars at the NE Regional meet in Marlboro, MA last fall. I also have a great 1957 candidate. A 1 owner, all original, 24,000 mile car. Just off of an estate and absolutely beautiful. I live in Massachusetts and would like to exchange some info with you. I would like to get it Bowtie'd during the next year or two. Let me know how best to contact you. I live 2 hours from you! Thanks! NCRS member 54615

Good Morning GTO guy. I love how your 61 is solid red. Most people today paint the cove white. Factory records show 1791 cars were red and included in that total 954 were red with white cove.
I like the solid colors with the stainless trim outlining the cove. Especially solid black with black tires.

Thanks, Jim I initally was thinking of adding white coves, but the solid color has grown on me, and it is original, so I'm going to leave it as-is. When I change out the tires for newer ones, I was thinking blackwalls on vintage American Torque Thrusts (not the 'D' type), or very possibly the small dog dish hubcaps on the stock red wheels...I really like the basic, bare-bones look of those. I'm thinking wide whites and spinners belong on more of a dressed up car, and this one is kind of down-and-dirty, which is more my style!

My gas filler lid insert flew off when the car was being brought down to me from Napa Valley. I can't buy a ...DARE I SAY, A NEW ONE. Anybody got a Patina'd C2 gas cover for sale? I don't care what year. Just as long as it's OLD, AGED, SEASONED, EXPERIENCED, WEATHERED, or just plain GRUBBY !!!

drug this out last year ... pretty much all original ..nothing changed except in the 60's they molded off the rear exhaust tips and put glass packs on it ......last ran in 1998 ... with a little careful TLC she fired up and purrs nicely --- spot repaints and knicks all over and it even has the letter of congratulations from MR ED COLE ...sadly the "57' gift pack" from the Chevy factory disappeared before I got it ..
a survivor too nice to restore -- so far it has new radials but retains the original factory foam crumbling out of the original seats .. my wife can always tell when i have been driving it .. tell tale foam crumbs on the seat of my jeans ... sadly this one has to go soon ... i can barely fit behind the steering wheel or turn the wheel with out power steering .. ..

I see the hardtop decklid stud holes. You say you got the hardtop also, that is neat. Could you share the fisrt two digits of the vin? Being a positraction car, I am curious about the production date. We know the race cars in February 57 had positraction, but always looking for confirming evidence from ''original'' cars. The earliest posi-traction date code I have seen was A57, or January 5, 1957.
