Default C2 part stumper - conv deck lid latch backing plate

Let's see if anyone can beat JohnZ to the answer.

The deck lid latches on each side of the deck lid clip into a latch bolted on the body. On the other side of the body wall, up inside the rear fender wells is a metal backing plate.

Here's a photo:

Where can I buy? Called Zip and Corvette America - nuttin'

Nobody has ever heard of it...

Simple if you have metal working stuff like a drill press. I don't have one. I also don't have a metal cut off saw. I've also lost my youthful idealism.

It looks homemade because it's been sandblasted, the rusted bolts drilled out and tapped.

But the other one is destroyed.

I checked it out - that's not the part. That is for the latches that hold the soft top to the deck.

These plates secure the deck latches to the body.

I'm having new plates fabricated.

Maybe the reason nobody knows about them is that they are riveted to the body inside the rear wheel wells and usually covered in undercoating. They don't normally fall out.

Mine were rusted to the point that the rivets let loose.

That one in the pic looks homemade because it's been sandblasted, had broken bolts drilled out and re-tapped.

But the other one is beyond repair. They are original parts.

There is NO part number because they/vendors/suppliers don't make it...that's why the OP is having it made...
