Default Decent 67 Battery

I haven't been around on the forum for a long time. I also haven't been driving my 67. Why? A million reasons, none of them good.

At any rate I plan on starting my car next week. The battery, although on a decent trickle charger, is 7 years old so I have little faith in it being able to start the car.

I am not showing the car so I don't need a reproduction, all I want is a good, dependable battery.

What say you Corvette Forum? What is a dependable power source for my 67 327/350 ?

I went through this a few months back (https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ry-for-c2.html) and ended up with a Bosch Platinum Series AGM Battery Group Size 24 from Pep Boys (http://www.pepboys.com/product/details/844459/00603/). I like the gel cell style over liquid acid myself and don't mind paying a bit more for it.

They often have coupons (as they do now) for 25% off the online order, which makes this battery pretty decent price.

I run NAPA Legends in both cars. I saw a video not long ago where Jay Leno had one in a split window.

I installed an Optima AGM "red-top" and am very pleased. I have AC hoses directly above the battery box, which calls for working the battery into position by turning it on its long side and dropping into place. Gel type batteries make this drop-in maneuver a breeze. I also bought Optima's $90 battery charger off Amazon - just in case!

I buy my batteries here:

http://www.ruralking.com/store-locations/ There are a couple close to your location.

They sell batteries made by Exide. They're often on sale $39.95-$49.95 for 60 month warranty. First year free replacement, next four years pro-rated.

Since Wal-Mart raised the prices on their batteries (which always worked well for me), I've switched to Rural King. I have maybe ten of these batteries I've bought over the last 3 years or so. So far, I'm happy with the service I've gotten out of them.

Resist the temptation to buy a large or fancy battery. Your car doesn't have enough electrical loads on it to justify that. Now, if you like showing off you new battery..........................

PS. These batteries are sealed and you can stand them on end for easy installation without spilling any acid.

I checked RuralKing web site. There is nothing near Chicago, so I would have to buy on line. The correct one for my car is no longer on sale. With tax and Delivery it is north of $150.

You have a store in Plano, Il. About 50 miles from Chicago. Big place. I don't know where you live. There are others close too. I don't know what the online price is. Never bought one online but the "in store regular price" is $50 and $55 for the ones I'm talking about. They are on sale at least 2 times a month here.

This link shows the regular price.

They do have the gel batterys that cost $150 or so. Is that what you were looking at?

Try Advance Auto. Their batteries are made by Johnson Controls who have over 1/3 of the world wide battery market. If you purchase the battery on line, they generally have a 30% coupon which you can obtain by Googling Advance Auto coupons. Pay on line and then pick it up at the store of your choice.

I replaced mine recently with an Interstate brand. It's a group 34 battery, same size as a group 24, only 1 inch shorter. 100 more CCA over the group 24 battery. Bought at Costco, about 82 bucks. . .. IIRC, 3 year free replacement warranty.

Did changing to the shorter battery make changing it any easier? (It's not one of my favorite tasks for some reason.)

Perhaps only slightly, but yes, it did seem to go in easier.

Green ,red ,yellow or white batteries just don't look right in an old Corvette in my opinion. In a pinch I bought a large auto parts store generic black battery a few years ago and peeled the stickers off. Now it's just a black box.

I've had a Optima Red Top in my 65 for about 8 years. No problems so far.

Just picked up a exide 24c (classic) at Tractor Supply for my 67.
$69.99 with core. I have exide batts in my Case loader and 49 Mack. Both are over 8 years old and still going strong.

+1 on Optimas. Expensive, but powerful and LONG-lasting.

I agree with Mike.
I bought a Rural King battery within the last 6 months. Half the price of a AC Delco and a better warranty.
Same specifications on both batteries made by Exide.

Plano is 50 miles from the south side of Chicago. I live in the city on the far northwest side. That would be 75 miles each way and therefore be cost prohibitive. I will be passing a tractor Supply. I'll check them or Farm & Fleet out.

Thanks!
