What are the raised casting figures on the bellhousing flange and the stamped figures on the flat pad at the front passenger side?

Grumpy - you do realize that everyone who has an old Chevy block believes it came out of a Corvette. If this 427 came out of a Corvette it will have a Corvette VIN on the stamp pad. Otherwise it's a Chevrolet motor - not a Corvette motor.

942 blocks were installed in other Chevy vehicles besides Corvettes; I assume they were sold across the counter as well.

The pad will tell.

Grumpy, just post a picture of the stamp pad and someone will surely tell you more about your engine than you currently know...

appears to be June 08 1966 corvette 427/425hp 4spd block...casting date should be on right side of block under where exhaust manifold would be....nice!

Grumpy - Not sure if you've seen the C2registry.org site or not but folks with midyears do list their cars on that site by VIN. There are only two 66's with VIN's starting with '241xx' and one of them is a 425 horse 427 but indicates they have the matching number engine and their date is a bit ahead of yours...'T0602IP'. Any overbore indicated on the piston tops?

hi Mike , this engine has been sitting in my garage since about 1973, the former owner dropped a value and bent a rod , motor was pulled a at a local gm dealership and replace , a mechanic friend grabbed the short block [ rods, block & crank ]and now is mine and a few mice who built a nest inside.
, low miles and one over rev, grumpy

Of course every once in awhile a Corvette motor does turn up. Good luck finding the original car. it's probably still around with a 427/425 being represented as an original motor car.

Grumpy the only difference in the two vin options is the fourth digit, vin will be either 194676S1241xx or 194376S1241xx. Spend the money on a NCRS shipping data report. submit either one of the above vin's. If you request it with the fourth digit in error the report will provide the vin of record by GM with the correct digit at least it used too.
