Default Rare 1964 Chevrolet Corvette N03 Big Tanker Heading to Auction

one-in-38 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Tanker

From the article:
Equipped with a 327-cu.in. (5.4-liter) small-block V8 engine and a close-ratio gearing Borg-Warner four-speed manual transmission, this C2 Corvette also boasts with Rochester fuel injection. Thanks to the latter, this second-generation Corvette produced a meaty 375 HP when it was brand spanking new.

6 pictures and full article

Once had a friend with a '64 tanker and a 3.08 rear end in Montana. He loved that he could run all day cross country and not have to fill up until evening. Other than endurance races, I suppose this was the only other use for such a large tank.

Six pictures and NOT one of the Big Tank! I'm far more impressed that somewhere, somehow they found a BW T-10 for the car.

I had the same thought about not having a pic of the BT. Maybe it is "included" in the sale, but not installed?

Why would anyone want to use the wrong transmission?

Increasing time between gas stops was probably the main reason for those who did not also order competition-capable options. My '65 N03, delivered new to Fletcher-Jones Chev in Phoenix [ie. hot], also has air conditioning and 365hp. What I can't figure out is why someone (the ordering dealer ?) also checked off the G81 4.11 ratio. I'd never heard of air with 4.11's before, although technically you could even get it with 4.56's. Even weirder, the original owner did not order the car. Per Arizona motor vehicle records, Fletcher-Jones re-assigned the MSO [manufacturers statement of origin] on 12-4-64 to a leasing company in Flagstaff AZ. Title xxx issued 12-23-64, open sign-off, to Morris Motors (leasing arm of the Buick-Olds dealer). The first owner was (J.S.), the mgr. of the local Pizza Hut.

Mecum seems to be cornering the market on the high dollar Corvettes. The upper tier auction houses seem to be steering clear of Corvettes. Interesting how the market is moving.

Make sure you do your due diligence on this one. It's not going to be cheap.
