Default Tail light Bulbs !

The problem I'm having is all 4 tailights electic wired pigtails are for a dual post light bulb IE bulb 1157 ! The casing that holds the bulb in the shiny chrome on the 2 inbd tail light assy does not hold a 1157 bulb.... So is there a different bulb with a dual post that has both retaining pins at the same spot .... Not offset like the 1157 bulb.

The wire harness is a dual post for the 1157 bulb and the car bulb fixture holder is for a 1156 bulb... So is there a bulb with a dual post with a 1156 casing ?

There's diffreant cast numbers on the housing for inner and outer and inner back up ones. There should be a chart somewhere on the interrnet

Did all 4 tail lights, brake lights and turn signals work when you bought the car?
Sounds like a backup light car to me. The 1156 bulb is single filament and the pins are straight across from each other.
The tail light 1157 bulbs have staggered pins.
Check all 4 tail light housing and determine the bulb pin placement, that should answer the question.

So the single post is for 1156 bulb is for non backup light cars? The dual post bulb 1157 is for back up light cars ? Right !

No it is the opposite.
The 1157 3 function tail light/brake light/turn signal bulb has the staggered pins and 2 contacts in the base.
The 1156 bulb is a single function single contact backup light bulb.
It has straight across pins.
Did all 4 tail lights work previously??

There is a two post socket that has the pin slots opposite each other but it is not for tail lights. It is for interior lights that use one pin as a ground and one pin for power. If that us what you have in the tail/brake/turn they will not work. You must change them.

Default Taillight, BU light Pictures

I hope a picture is worth 1000 words.
Contact me if you have any questions.
These sockets are EXACTLY like bulb sockets
Backup light bulb 1156.
Tail light bulb 1157.

I suspect the inner housings are either tail light only, if there is such a thing, or back up light. The electrical part was replaced with something like these in the two contact style on the right. Are the current sockets wired up? If so to what?

The 2 contact pigtails will work only if the tail housings have sockets that will accept the 2 contact bulb (1157) which has the staggered pins.

The way to solve this problem is for the Original Poster to answer all the questions that have been asked.

Did the tail lights all work when you got the car?
Do the inner sockets have straight across or staggered pins?
Do the outer sockets have straight across or staggered pins?
Are there single or double contacts in the 4 sockets?
Is the original wiring in the car?
Are all 4 sockets wired?
Is there a backup light switch or wiring at the transmission?

If you want to resolve your problem, provide answers to the questions.

Sorry for not replying.... Car had backup lights at one time or the person before me put in the wrong light housing when when they replaced them .... I'll go with the second of the two.... So I ordered some replacement housing for the 2 inboard since I have put a new wire harness for a no backup light car... The harness matched the one that I took out of the car. So to test my thinking took a 1157 bulb and filed down the mid locking post on the case and stuck it in the housing and everything works perfect! Now waiting on the new housing...

Thanks for your help acain !!!!!!
