Here's a photo - it's the big forging in the middle that's connected to the inboard ends of the tie rods at the bottom and its bearing support is bolted to the front crossmember at the top; the ball on the end of the long arm extending off to the left connects to one end of the drag link (not shown) and the other end of the drag link connects to the pitman arm.

Well as of yesterday I got my permanent plates. Just in time for winter! I've been driving it quite a bit, I got my temps last saturday. I keep damaging rear u joints. I need to get some traction bars on it. When I get on it the pinion climbs enough that the u joint hits the pinion nut. It very well could be the wrong nut. It looks too big. I'm on my 3rd u joint this week. First I removed my 4* shims from under the rear, but yesterday I hurt the new u joint. It was wheel hopping pretty good when it happened.
Lots of other shake down repairs. My front brakes were dragging. I had to remove the residual valve from my mopar master cylinder.
Cooling wise it seems Ok now. It starts to get past 180 in traffic even on cool days. I might have some issues there.

More bad news. I've bent the draglink. I found it last week when I was under the car looking for a leak. I'm working on a plan.
Sorry I never called jim, I'm not blowing you off. I've been working ot for the last 3 weeks

I think it from going full left lock.

If you use that big a spacer you need to lengthen the pitman arm on the steering box to keep the linkage angle from getting too severe. OK to cut and weld.

I accidently installed a set of RPO springs on the front which raised the height.
In my case, there is no give whatsoever. It makes it for a very stiff ride. But still fun around the corners!

So, time for an update.
My car developed a coolant leak on the passenger side over the summer. 2 saturdays ago i pulled the engine. my passenger side head has a crack about level with the exhaust ports. maybe 6" long.
I dismantled the motor, found some rust stains in the bore,
I just got my block and crank back from the machine shop, had a light hone to clean up the bores, the block magged fine, polished the crank.
The rods were a little loose so Im going to get a set of scat 7/16 rods, a set of Clevite H mains and rods, A new high volume pump, etc
I just scored a deal on a second hand pair of Dart 200cc heads with 2.05/1.6 stainless valves mechanical roller springs and TI retainers.
With any luck I'll have it running again in 3-5 weeks
Ill post some pictures later this week
also, now that the motor is out it seems pretty obvious that my pitman arm is bent, I think that is what caused my bent drag link.

Updates
So, my trick motor isn't done. I got all the stuff for the short block, and the compression is going to be too high to use the dart heads that I bought. So I need a set of heads, balance the rotating assembly, buy all the roller cam junk etc....
My finances have not allowed me to proceed further with the engine. I didn't drive the car all last summer. It's been a bummer.
So I'm over at the speed shop the other day (Thursday before father's day) and one of the guys that works there tells me they have this good running 350 that came out of a customer's car, and it's free if I want it. I go take a look at it, it's an 010 4 bolt block with a pair of smog heads, and it's complete from intake to oil pan. I say to myself why not put this in the car this weekend? Then the wheels start turning... I have those 49CC heads, Paul at the speed shop has a cam and springs I can run. Why not slap that together so at least it has some pep.
long story short. The car was running Tuesday morning after a long weekend of putting the motor together and getting it in the car I ended up putting in New main, rod and cam bearings, a new double roller timing chain, a crane h228 228* single pattern on a 106) but using solid lifters. I sprang for a nice set of scorpion 1.6 roller rockers. It broke in great even though the bores were pretty scrappy looking. The is minimal blow by and it seems to pull pretty good. There is great oil pressure and it's not overheating. It should be a good runner until I get my trick motor finished up
I've been driving the car again. It's been great, but tonight I stopped at a friend's house the lives up the road from me. I wanted to check my full throttle adjustment. I have him hold the pedal for me so I can get the linkage adjusted, I put the air cleaner back on go to leave it starts a little hard. I'm thinking that we flooded it a little, I go to head home and it's running kinda shifty, I glance at the gauges and see the ammeter pegged all the way over at -30. The. A burst of smoke, I shut the car off and let it coast, I jump out and yank off the batter cable, I was thinking something was wrong with my generator. A couple kids helped me push it up my driveway, I start digging into it and I found that the air cleaner gasket must have fallen off without me noticing and with the motor shaking around it had just shorted out the positive side of the coil on the air cleaner. It should be an easy repair, but the whole experience was nerve racking non the less. I'm going to add a fuse or a breaker to the main power feed and move the coil out from its current location.
I think I got off lucky, it could've ended much worse.
