What the heck ? I replaced all these strut rod bushings about two years and 10,000 miles ago and everything was torqued down and fine.
Then I'm walking under the car on a lift this morning and I see this just forward of the PS rear wheel....DS seems fine.
What the blazes could have caused this, and, is my strut rod ruined from the metal on metal contact ?

no, the strut is not damaged. the metal you see is the outer portion of the strut bushing and will be cut/pushed out in order to install a new bushing.
as to cause... a 'way out' answer would be because it is the passenger side of an open rearend and gets the most movement upon 'hard' acceleration...
but it's probably just a bad bushing; replace it, check it once and a awhile, and ENJOY...

Off to Eckler's this morning I guess...
I think hard launches and a peg leg rear were contributors.....it was installed correctly and the other side is fine...

I ripped the entire pass side frame bracket off my car many years ago before I put lift bars on the car. And I had posi.

My frame bracket on the PS has been re-welded too... Done before I got the car though.

hi have broken a few struts , [traction bars ] also , it was the reason I remove my Edelebrock cross ram and magneto, that set used to fry my g50-15 tires.

Got a new bushing from Eckler's (BTW their showroom/warehouse in Titusville has MOVED). No longer on Rt 1....5 minutes away now south on Grissom Blvd.
Got the old bearing metal holder pressed out and the new bushing pressed in; I'll install it tomorrow morning and start keeping an eye on its condition as I rack up some miles.

Got the bushing in the rod, I don't have a press so it was "all thread" with sized sockets, driver nuts and a lot of bicep power. Pure-T b!tch but it works.
Rod is on the car and took it for a test run and all seems well - really, I don't notice anything at all different. Changed out the differential fluid while I was under there -- I hadn't done it since purchasing the car in '07; overdue for sure.
Having a lift let me: a) notice the problem in the first place, b) fix it quickly and easily, and, c) take on other maintenance while I was messing around under there anyway.

I don't even recognize half that stuff.
Like the bent folding chair leg running over top of the pumpkin to the Tinker Toy bracket.
