Default 63 Carburetor

Would this be a 63 or at least a C2 carburetor suitable for a 300hp? I hope so. Supposedly rebuilt by bezautoalchemy a Studebaker restorer.

AFB 3461S is shown in NCRS Judging Manual as being suitable/correct for 1963 327/300 and 340 HP and early 1964 327/300 HP. Manual transmission.

The date code indicates January 1963.

Larry

EDIT: Normally only two digits/letters are used for the date. In the case of three, the first represents the week of the month. So the carb was made the second week of January 1963.

I lucked out on this one! A while back I sold my worn out 3461S for $300 and now I paid $315 for a restored one!

Should I send it out to one of the corvette carb experts?

Bolt in up and try it. These AFBs are pretty forgiving.

I'll try it. My 63 is out of commission for the time being as the instruments are out for restoration.

The first letter is the revision,, B being the second revision of that carb. The only dating is the A3 indicating January '63.
Also, the lid on that carb is a '64 lid, not a '63.

The angled notches on the corners of the two square posts on top. Kind of hard to explain with the right words.

Verne:

Appreciate the correction. The NCRS Judging Manual is silent on this point. However, I went to a couple of other Corvette forums and auto forums (Buick Wildcat for one) and they state that the "B" was the week of production……..and gave/showed several examples of carbs with three digits/letters and the decoding.

I like your explanation better……………but either way, the carb (or the base of the carb ) was apparently made in January 1963.

I have a Technical Information sheet from Chevy that explains the revisions and how to identify them. I've heard Holleys may have a week designation, but the AFBs from this time period do not.

That looks like a correct '63 model lid to me.

Actually L2 is November '62 and that one has the '64 style lid as well. Rebuilders will often change lids if the fuel inlet fitting threads are whooped (a lot of them are).

PS: If anyone knows where I can find those little black carb stands, I'd like to hear about it. Mine are worn out.

Ha! I made mine out of a Lowe's kitchen drawer front, some nuts and bolts, and nylon spacers. Cost was about $9.

Thank you VERY much. I just searched yesterday for the item and it didn't come up. I bought the set right away.
Thanks again.
