That one is on it's third trip on eBay. Makes you wonder.

There's a 1961 listed from Orange County, CA, on it's second trip on ebay. I went to look at it and the description is short several expensive facts about the car.

Doesn't look awful but needs some TLC; the price is not wholly out-of-line. Something going on with the trunk fit that'll need some attention.

A lot of these sellers do themselves no favors with their gimpy ads. Also, some cars just seem to bounce around on the auction sites because they are uninspiring or something. I don't quite get it either....

Maybe buyers are thinking it needs another $20K to make it a high-quality driver then you will be at the upper edge of what an NOM driver is worth....who knows ??

Lots going on with this one. Quick scan of the pics makes you wonder what lies beneath.....

Pass side wiper, antenna mount, trunk emblem, trunk lid alignment (as FTF pointed out), no arm rests, door panels funky, dash pad / white painted gauges a mess, fuel line routing (seriously?), water temp sender in top of water pump, valve cover oil fill cap jammed into oil fill tube (killer), wrong carb, no fan shroud....................

Could be a few of the reasons it has not sold,

Tom

Just out of curiosity, what do you see wrong with the fuel line routing?

I don't see how it wouldn't leak being hose clamped to the male fitting.

I get a bit particular when it comes to brakes and fuel. I would have installed the fuel filter in the upright portion of the fuel line and then had a nice transition to the carb feed line. The way it is routed is unsupported and just asking for trouble IMHO. Maybe it was done this way just to get the engine fired up? I would definitely reroute it before driving too much.

I don't think the hose is clamped to the fitting. Looks like the fitting has been pushed back to allow the hose to fit over the end of the fuel line. Hopefully they didn't cut the flare off of the end of the fuel line, otherwise there will be fuel leaks......

Either way, 34k is strong money for that car....... again IMHO.

That car is a complete rust bucket. Junk. Look at the frame rails. As Popchevy said, the entire frame has been plated over, which causes even more rust. Look at the scale on the steering column. I guarantee that the control arms are shot, and the rocker supports, and hinge supports are also rusted away. I wouldn't touch that car for 10K.

The steering column mast cover is a mess and I've never seen rust like that.
I don't see what everybody else is seeing on the frame at all...

Not sure how many conclusions you can draw from two crappy pictures - either way.

Frank,
Look at the two pictures showing the frame rails. There is a 1/8" steel plate welded to the bottom of the frame (probably the sides also). You can clearly see the "poop" welding along the edges. If you'll look at the frame on your 61, you'll see that it is made in two "C" sections, with a weld seam stitched along the bottom and the top.

When plates are added the way that they were done here, it was only done for one reason.....to cover up rust. Then what happens is the the moisture is trapped between the "plates" and the original frame metal, and that causes the frame to rot away. That's really a bad one.

Roll your mouse over the picture, and it magnifies it.

Yes. Here is a crummy picture of the top of an early frame. You have have two C channels that overlap in the center, and are stitch welded on the top and bottom.

Yes, my '61 has the two C channels tacked on both top and bottom.
I should have caught that when looking at the pics...of course it would have been clear with an eyeball, close-up inspection.
