When I bought my 1973 convertible, I used http://www.automobileinspections.com

They gave me great service, reasonable pricing. They inspected the car and gave me a full appraisal of the car before I bought it and send me 140 pictures. They conducted the sale ( I live in Florida, the car was in Virginia). They set up the shipment of the car to me, and handled all the sale paperwork. It was easy...

Hi, I live 2 miles from PP can inspect for you. If you want, call me to discuss what you want inspected. I am not an expert but I have a 66 myself and have some knowledge and can take pictures etc.

BC211,
Can you describe the car for me. You can PM me if you don't want to post it. A good friend of mine who lives in Point Beach owns a 66 Convertible and if it's the car your looking for I can vouch for it. I just saw him the other day, but he didn't mention he was selling. Is it a Red 66 by chance?

BC211,
Just talked to my friend, it's not his car but he's a mechanic and has owned his 66 since we were in high school, we're 53 now, so he knows his stuff. He's worked on my Vette many times.

Thanks guys for the info. I have seen this car and looked at it myself, very clean and lots of new parts. I only live 50 miles away. Owner very nice and up front about everything. But as I have read all over you should get an inspection before purchase, especially when spending this kind of money. So I'm looking for a qaulified person for this. I hope I didn't offend anyone. Thank you.

You are going about it the right way... you might want to contact the NCRS folks in your area to see if they have someone to inspect.

It doesn't have to be (or your intentions of being) a NCRS car, but they are pretty damn thorough.

Good thinking. A knowledgable, but non-expert, inspector would be horrified if they failed to catch a discrepancy that resulted in a mis-priced car purchase.

Good luck. I don't think any knowledgable Corvette person would be offended.

Just curious, is there a legal aspect of getting a certified inspector vice a knowledgable enthusiast? I guess if the "Inspector" misses something major you can pursue legal recourse? any lawyers out there? ( I went to one year of Law School before I saw the light)

Contact Chuck Berg………….he lives in Virginia. Google the name for contact info or let me know and I will provide it. A VERY GOOD choice.

Not sure if there really is. I would think a certified inspector has some disclaimer that they cannot be responsible for blah, blah blah. After all, they are human too. How would you like to certify a 67 L88, only to find out later from the buyer who hired you, found out that it was a counterfeit block in the 67 L88 that they just paid a premium for based on your inspection.

Disclaimer - I've never hired a certified inspector to inspect a vehicle. I would think they report on the numbers that are present, condition, if the "correct" parts are there, etc.. Do they enough about broach marks and fonts? Or would they still use the words "appear" when they describe those types of items?
