Default Rebound straps/1957

I bought the rebound straps as the CC catalog shows that are correct length(27.24") for my car. However when I try to put them on with the car up on stands with jack stands under the rear axle, the rebound straps are about 5 inches to short after I make the loops.
Does the car have to be sitting on the wheels for the straps to go on?
Does that mean that any time I jack the car up I have to undo the rebound straps/.
Also there is no spare in the trunk, nor any other weight in the trunk.

Thanks,

Dennis

P.S. I don't know if this should matter either, but I just put in new fiber spacers in the rear springs. Also from CC. The grooves fit right into the spaces on the original springs.

Something's not right... With the axle on stands, the suspension will be loaded.
You should have 2-3 inches of slack.

As Fred's picture above shows, WITH THE AXLE HOUSING ON JACK STANDS, this is what you should have.
REGARDLESS of whether the car is sitting on the floor on its tires, OR, if jack stands are under the axle housing, the SAME weight is being loaded onto the suspension.

That's what I need to confirm. The axle may have sat on the rebound strap loops when I was restoring the leaf springs and had them out. Can't remember for sure.

Yeah, this stuff is driving me nuts!! Everything looks right, but it won't come into the right position to fit!!
Any Suggestions will be appreciated!

Do you have the car on stands and the axle on stands?
If so, you are not loading the suspension at all.

If that is the case, jack up the axle, install the straps, and let the car sit on the ground and see where you are at.

Default rebound straps

Well, after looking at all the options and deciding I did not know what was going on, I did the only thing I could think of.
I put on the wheels, took out the jack stands and dropped the car down to the floor on its tires.
Eureka!! Everything came into place, the ride height was right and the rebound straps slipped right over the mounts and connected with 1.5-2 inches of slack under the axle.

I don't know the why, how or what, but I am happy with the results!
Well, it might have been the Bombay Sapphire Gin.
In fact I'm pretty sure that had a lot to do with it!

But they are in place and look right!

Thanks again for the forum input.

Yes - the others are correct -- here are my original straps with the car on jack stands (a '61)

Maybe if you have gas charged shocks, all it needed was to loosen and remove each at the bottom to get the weight down.

Strange that it didn't reach normal ride stance on the axle stands.

Last ones I did on a '61 was on my 2-post lift. I had to use a floor jack to get the axle up to attach the straps.
