Default Front suspension questions

Swapped the 7 leaf installed on my 65 327-300 with a Eaton 6/3 and really like the difference in ride. Also did the rear and front shocks. The front really didn't improve much ( teeth chattering over bumps). I am not sure whether PO installed a HD front spring or not. Is there a way to tell the difference and just in general, is there a way to tell whether a front spring may need replacement ( distance between coils, etc?). Any help appreciated.

Post a picture of the front suspension showing the coil springs. I would take the picture with the weight on the suspension. There is a pretty significant difference in appearance between the stock and F41 springs - wire diameter and coil count. A lot of guys will be able to judge which ones they are. It's pretty visually apparent.

Of course someone could have installed an aftermarket spring.

I am doing the same thing, not in yet , glad to hear the 9 leaf eaton helps, its what I got,
I did get front stock springs, check on wilcox for a pic of them 296lb spring rate, look no progressive, $110, it should be easy to see if you springs are spaced farther apart, if 7 leaf in back , probably f41 500lb or so spring in front, what shocks did you use? I did ac delco gas.
my car was bouncing all over the country roads, is driving me nuts

I just used Monroe SensaTracs and painted them like the Delcos. I also got the spring unpainted from Eaton and painted it gray.

I'll back it up a little in the garage and try and get a pic and post, thanks Dan.

John,
Are you referring to brake calipers? If so yes. The spring coil diameter seems to be about 5/8"

Nope - measuring calipers, not brake calipers. The standard front spring (#3851100) wire coil diameter was .600", and the F40 front spring (#3882518) was .680".

Oh,no I don't have measuring calipers but a friend does. He's in Carmel until tonight but I'll borrow his and get a precise measurement tomorrow and get back to you. With my crude measurement it could be either. Thanks for the help John. The rear spring went without a hitch!

John
Measured today with a caliper and they indeed are .68. Looks like I'll be ordering a set from LIC...........
