Default 1965 396 dipstick tube installation

How far should the flange at the base of the 396 dipstick tube go into the receiving end of the oil pan, or should it be flush with the lip on the pan end? Thanks, Charlie

Default I guess I apply a little too much science to my experiments!

I was doing this on an engine and actually thought to pour 7 quarts of oil into by 7 quart pan and then dip the stick and see where I should come up on the length of the tube that would put me closer to where I believed the true line should be for a perfect reading. But then I had nothing better to do with my free time on that particular day. So I choose the best or closest dip tube that I could find and a little surgery with a grinder and I felt like I accomplished something at the end of the day. But then that's just me!
