Default 64 coupe rear fan

I'm going through the latest 63/64 judging guide and it discusses a fan at the rear of the 64 coupe. Is this the same rear fan in the '65 coupes ?

I thought that didn't start until '65????

Yes, rear fan in the 64 Coupe, mine had one, ran noisy but could push a lot of air out

Here's the Chevrolet Service News of Aug '64. The '65s weren't out yet, but the same applies wrt the rear exhaust fan. Ignore the mods for the duct to clear the inner wheel housings. the latter was for Z06 and N03 cars only. '64 and '64 big tank cars had "rear blower delete".

Default coupe exhaust fans

It's no coincidence that 64's & 65"s both have the C-pillar louver vents.

I guess the judging guide is correct then (big surprise).
I just mis-remembered those blowers as starting in '65; wrongly...

I restored the rear blower motor for a 64 coupe that will be judged next week and found it blew stronger than the blower motor for my 67 heater. Should have traded them out!

The rear blower in my 65 coupe blows an amazing amount of air.
With only the drivers side window open 2 or 3 inches you can feel the air moving across the interior of the car.
Great ventilation, I wonder why GM discontinued it?

I've always heard that they weren't very effective but since some of you claim that they actually DO work I'd be interested to know the answer to that as well.

My January 64 Coupe has its but was not working when I got the car and I have not gotten to this yet. Glad to hear it's a worthwhile project!

On my '64 (#1---), the cable is stuck and it only works at one speed and only/always when the heater fan is off.

So it was either listen to the heater fan or that one at my left ear. I find it annoying, so I put in a switch to turn off the heater fan so they can both be off.

It moved very little air, made a lot of noise, had complex controls, many pieces, and was VERY expensive; didn't take long to attract the attention of the bean-counters, and it was gone.

The system is designed so that the rear blower does not work when the heater is on. The cable set up is a bit fluky with that switch as the distance is pretty far and sometimes needs tweaking (it's a long mechanical run) to get both speeds. I like the fan and it sounds to hear it from the operating outer louver.
