Default Horn issues on a 63 Roadster

Went to a local show today with my 63 corvette roadster. To my
embarrassment, my horn started blaring and would not stop. Every
time I touched the horn button it would go off, very touchy. Is it just
the three screws on the inside that need adjustment? If they touch metal, the horn goes off.

The three screws just attach the horn contact assembly to the steering wheel; look closely at the contact assembly and you'll see that it's just a switch that makes and breaks with very little movement and pressure. When it "makes", it grounds the wire inside the steering column jacket that connects to the horn relay, which energizes the relay and sounds the horn.

If the contact assembly isn't corroded, they can be rebuilt with new nylon insulator buttons, or just replaced.

The is the horn button on the car. If you look in the upper right, you can see a insulator washer underneath the screw. can't see whats wrong if any.

That washer isn't "insulating" anything - probably just a spacer so the horn button is parallel to the surface of the wheel when snapped in place on the "prongs" on the black spring steel portion of the contact assembly.

If that had been a split window coupe; some here would claim your car was just trying to get attention

Seriously, it is indeed a touchy arrangement. They make nice repro versions of the part in the pictures above but it might just need some small tweaks.

FYI - if it should happen again you can always reach down forward of the hood and just pull the connectors off both horns temporarily to get you home -- quietly
