Right, maybe a "Flux Capacitor" in there.

So since this engine would absolutely NOT run properly or at all with the pickup coil disconnected, this is what I think happened......

He was having erratic running, then it died. No restart.

The 2 terminal pickup connector was barely connected. Engine vibrations eventually freed it completely, dropping out of connection. Is his diagnosis, and being unfamiliar with TI, he showed the pictures of the plug disconnected. He needs a new reliable TI Module, clean up the connections, reconnect the 2 pin plugs, (If me a new TI harness too), and all will be fine.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it !!

Either that or we all got duped!

I almost suggested flux capacitor but I was afraid someone might ask me - what's that do?

I thought they only put Flux Capacitors in 1984 Corvettes? My next fix was going to be blinker fluid.

I think you are probably right. I went through my engine harness and started undoing all the black tape. I did manage to find another TI wiring harness bundled up in there but not hooked up. Also, for the wiring going to the starter, somebody must have cut it and then spliced in their own wiring. Everything was spliced together in the same spot, leaving a "meatball effect". The sleeving that they used to connect the wires has deteriorated over the years and there was some stuff starting to ground out in there. All the wiring had exposed/burned/corroded areas. I cleaned everything up and it actually runs good for as long as I need it to without shutting off. Also no buzz coming from the distributor. Not sure which route I am going to go from here. I will either start replacing some of these parts or do the MSD thing. I will keep you all posted with which route I go. Thanks for all of your help with this, it is much appreciated.

Default Not sure if u resolve problems

I’m dealing with a ti system and trying to trouble shoot. I talked to the ti specialist and here what u dealing with is something that the they described to me. The noise in the dist. may be a magnetic coil windings in the distributor get old and break down. So, if your car starts but after warming up stops or runs rough, the winding in there separates when it gets hot. Thus it looses the voltage going to the amplifier box. Unfortunately the guy making the replacement part retired a year ago and no one currently is making these. Solution appears to be taking the coil out of the distributor and find a place that rebuilds electric motors and they may be able to rewind your unit. To troubleshoot this. Check voltage between the 2 wires coming out of the distributor, it should be approximately 1.25 bolts ac during cranking. If this is good. Warm car up until break down and check voltage again. TI specialist says must be checked at cranking rate as the voltage will go up the faster it spins. Good luck. Hope I’m no to late with the information for you.

You have replied to an 8 year old thread. Better to post a new one, up top. Many of us run TI and are glad to help.
