Congrats on your find Brian. I thought of you when I saw this motor advertised on the forum today. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...6-2-motor.html
Good luck with the project.

Nice score Brian. I just brought home this winters project. Scored a 65 GTO coupe. Frame done body work done. Found it on craigslist also.

Nice score, and a good story.

Good to see a SWC saved, and beginning on the path to restoration.

Nothing like starting with good bones, and you certainly hit on a win with that barn find. Well done.

Having seen your stunning resurrection of that clapped out 56 you bought, i can't wait to see what you do with this car.

Thanks guys for all the feedback and insight.
Vette 65T and emccomas, thanks for ID'ing the engine, at least its a Chevy!
65 Silververt, good eye, I didn't notice that steering box nut, yup its a lug nut, that's one way to hold it together:

Supreme Deluxe, you are right, the advertised price kept others away, although the seller told me he had guys calling from as far away as California, until it was on the flatbed I felt at risk of loosing this opportunity.
Tooltime 47, That engine would bolt right in, I like the way you think, should I keep up this theme of CF members giving the leads to me to build this car out?
Bruce, I cant wait to see your 65 GTO, but are you going to remember how to work on metal after being covered in fiberglass for the past few years? At least you can use your welder again.
MOXIE62, "I bet everyone's wondering what I'm wondering. (good find)" that is the question of the hour, I am glad no one has been that blunt yet. To answer it will let some down no matter which way I go. Right now lets just say that my last 63 (vert)

was a frame off complete restoration that I loved but wasn't as fond as driving it as I was this:

From my perspective, you cant improve on the body lines of a classic C1 or C2; they are art:

The Split window is no different, the original classic lines are already perfect in my eye. I wish I could say that about the ride. My plans have yet to solidify yet for this car although I do want to drive it, it wont be a trailer queen, it will be a driver.

Back to the car; I thought it was sitting kind of high, I found these spring expanders holding it up in the front end:

And in the rear the leaf-spring has 9 leaf's, I don't remember 9, I thought they we narrower than that?:

The bird cage is just fine:

and although I don't have the correct engine, we did find the original tach drive distributor:

Thank you all for the good feedback and support, its fun to hang out here with all of the different perspectives, It reminds me of the song; "I love this Bar". Brian

I know of a 340hp SWC sitting in a hundred pieces in a painter friend's basement (yes there are basements in Florida) owned by an 85 year old man. I've made several offers on it but the guy won't sell because he's gonna restore it some day. His 'some days' are running out fast - damn shame.

More like the thought of other people wanting it but not being able to wrest it from him keeps him young....I've met the type more than once

Default Rust

How can a car accumulate that much rust, being on the road only 11 years. I guess stored in a humid environment did it. Good lesson for all of us when storing a car for a long time.

I keep a small oscillating fan going in the back of the garage during the humid summers here in South NJ and a thick sheet of plastic under the car.
The plastic stays under the car year round. Rug from the AC casino around the edges so u dont slide on ur azz.

Craigslist ad was Grand Rapids. Rust belt years are like dog years.
