Default 1954 corvette steering box spacer

Was the steering box spacer that fits between the steering box and the frame used on all 1954 Corvettes? Mine is missing. Is this a dangerous situation driving without it? Thanks.

The spacer is not needed on 6cyl Vettes.
It was added to V8 Vettes to allow steering column clearance for the V8 exhaust manifold.
