T-8's were the thing a few years back but now the latest craze is a T-5 HO.
These high output four foot fixtures put out an amazing amount of light. You can probably see them on display at. Your local Home Depot Store.
Costs nothing to look.

Default Been almost a year building it but...

Hitch...we are going with the double fluorescent 4 x 4 foot from Lowes cuz they are about 60% the cost of the other stuff, but send some more pics. I am about a month from moving us into our retirement home...she gets the second floor, I get the first floor garage. Sounds good to me...I am interested in what you decide to go with. Congrats!

The garage is 36x26 but with the stair case the working room is 32x26. I've looked at 4' 4 bulb reflector highbay lights like this..

I've been looking around the GarageJournal.com site and a few have said that I would have problems with the light output. It has been recommended to use just standard strip lights like these.

I work in the Warehousing Industry and the Lighting company I use has recommended 12 of the highbay lights but that is a Warehouse light for much higher ceilings. What has the Forum used for lighting in your garages? Thanks

Hitch
If it's not too late, you might consider adding some wall lighting next to the lift. It's great for when the car is in the air and the overheads are blocked by the car (duh)...

These are 4' fixtures that fit nicely between the studs that I got at Home Depot. They are meant for ceilings, but worked nicely for this application.

Went with LED's with 4 switches to control lighting in different areas. When they are all on it is like high noon in there at 1AM.
A bit pricey for the true LED lamp fixtures (didnt use the LED to incandescant adapters) but they are supposed to last 30+ years. Very satisfied.

A friend of mine put a row of sealed swimming pool lights in the floor under his lift. Coolest idea ever!

Dang, that's brilliant! (pun intended, of course). Got pix? Would love to see this!

Live well,
