starter shot?
When it rains it pours....while trying to work out my rough running engine I go to start it up and the starter cranks, turns the engine about an eights of a turn and then the starter just starts clicking. any thoughts before I pull the starter off?

First check all connections to the battery and starter, if it still clicks its time to pull the starter...if its the original, have it rebuilt if not just go to NAPA and get one of theirs...

Dead battery, loose connections or corrosion at terminals.

Melting Slicks
Another thought is that the starter has bad bearings and the armature is locking up on the field coil. If that is the case it will need a rebuild.

Start with the simplest and work towards the hardest. Franks got it....Check the battery first. Sounds like you've either got a dead battery or bad connections. If your battery checks out good you could try giving the starter a few raps with a hammer handle or rubber mallet and try to start it again.
