In addition to the claim you have for a lost engine, you can also add a claim in for the lost in value to the car because the original engine is destroyed. I know that is subjective but I would say at least $5000.
OK, we are all waiting for a video of the 63 running.

I'd let my attorney give some guidance on "diminished value" vis a vis the original block...I'm betting its more than $5K....easily double that IMO.
Anyway what a mess.... Every classic car owner's nightmare and unconscionable.

Late eighties or early 90's, don't remember for sure, a friend of mine changed the oil in his fairly new car with Quaker state oil. A few weeks later the engine blew up. He said it was the oil, pulled the engine and took apart. He called Quaker and told them their oil ruin his engine. I thought what a waste of time on his part trying to get a multi million dollar company to take him seriously. Anyway they sent a rep down and after the rep looked at the engine, he asked what would it take to buy a new engine. The rep cut him a check right there for the price of a new engine, labor to pull and install and rental car. When friend told me I could not believe it till he showed me the check. I'm not sure what the rep saw to agree to his terms but it made a believer out of me. Needles to say, I never used Quaker oil after that.
