Default 1963 Grand Sport side exhaust?

While looking at pictures of the 5 original Grand Sports I noticed a few different side pipe configurations.
Is it fair to assume the configuration might have been changed for improvements while racing them?
I was told that Jere Stahl of Stahl Headers built them for GM.
I know at one time Jere visited Cincinnati to validate the originality of the exhaust on Grand Sport #2 owned by Jim Jaeger.

Bruce, I "think" (but I am not certain) Stahl did indeed make the headers on the #12 white Grand Sport roadster that George Wintersteen raced and is now owned by the Simeone Museum in Philly. I am a big fan of the Grand Sports and over the years I have seen many many photos of different cars with various engines and different header designs. Like most racing parts from that era, the racers designed (?) / fabricated whatever it took to be competitive and some of the headers, although perhaps very effective, weren't very eye appealing. Just my opinion, which when added to a quarter will get you a cold cup of 2 day old coffee.

What he said. They were RACE cars and changed from event to event (development) to remain competitive. There is no "correct" for Grand Sports, only correct for a particular time period or event.

Perhaps some of these old pictures might help: CLICK HERE
Unfortunately, you can't save the images, but you can do a screen capture.

Is there any way to see larger versions of those images? Those snapshot size pictures are too small to show any meaningful detail.

Jim

Edit: Never mind. I just found the zoom feature.

The exhaust system changed a lot. Here are 3 different configurations on #004.

The search engine at the Revs Digital Library is not the best. If you want to find Corvettes, do NOT use the dropdown list... instead, manually type the word 'corvette' into the search field: LIKE THIS

In addition, this website is evolving... more pictures are being added. Sometimes, you can look at the image details (on the right side) and search similar events. I've found several GS pictures that weren't included/classified in the 'normal' search yet.
