Default C1 Wind Wings

This has been bothering me for a long time. The door posts on my 1960 have allen screws drilled into the posts. Both left and right sides are identical in regard to the placement on the posts. I haven't been able to figure out what they were for. Being an old fart, I remembered around the 50's-60's, people installed wind wings. Were these a dealer installed accessory?
Has anyone seen similar things on a door post?
Thanks, Captain Bud

The wing windows make sense....I don't know another reason somebody would have done that...

Yes, they were fairly common back in the day, like those on many British sports cars - "MG Mitten", Moss Motors, and many others sold them.

What would you do? Leave it alone fill in the holes and have them replated?

I'd leave it alone unless you have some good reason to disassemble the doors.

Some of the "purists" in our club say they shouldn't be there. It's a driver but I'm very sensitive when someone disses my car.

I'm about as "purist" as you can get, but I can't see tearing down the doors and spending another $800+ to have the posts repaired, metal-finished, and re-plated unless I was doing a restoration. However, your call.

I'd see if you could get someone to recreate the wind wings and **** of the purists.

At the 1981 NCRS Natl in St. Louis, someone had a 59 with wind wings. Personally, I really liked them.
I have a picture (it's not very good) and if I can find it, I'll post it.

Found it.

If the screws don't bother you, don't bother them.
It's your car do what you want.

I still have the snaps on my '61 where a tonneau cover was mounted at some point in the car's life. My painter offered to fill in the holes but the possibility of 'print thru' later on led me to keep them...doesn't bother me a bit and the mod is an interesting conversation piece. The tonneau's were apparently very one off items. At one point I had 3 in my garage (2 loaned to me from forum members to "try out") they were obviously for a C1 of some vintage but NONE fit my car exactly (too bad)..

I considered having a custom tonneau cover made but the front attaching point would have to be the dash and I'm not putting snaps through my dash pad...

I had a black 62 fuel car with these wind wings. I always saw them as consistent with a "day two car" from back in the day.

I actually like the look. They remind me of the wings I had on my Model A.
