seems high for a T-5, that basically what it is with forged parts. the 500 ft pound of torque is very high, think stock is 200, that does not mean if you have 500 ft lbs it will break, only if you give it 500 ft lbs, like putting on slicks and leaving at 4000rpm from a dig, and doing it 5 times a week. that is a lot of money for a t-5, it does have the correct tailshaft for good shifter placement, which is a s-10 tailshaft. a 2.95 first gear is low, you will be shifting to 2 gear very quick. If I wanted overdrive in my car I would look into the gear vendors unit. you wont alter too much of the car, they will take a beating as well, that is what the hot-rod drag week cars have. some may tell you to get a treemec, I have never busted a t-5 but I did bust a TKO? look into gearvendors!

Anybody using the Gearvendors? I searched around here before and the consensus seemed to be that you had to cut up an re-glass the transmission tunnel to make room for their overdrive unit to fit.

According to the manufacturer, you can't use them in a Corvette without some serious surgery to the car.

Sorry for the info on that, I did not know about having to restructure. I have heard good things about these guys, they are usually at good guys, you can get the whole kit for what that trans cost? I have changed over a lot of cars, putting trans in is the easy part, it is the little stuff that drive me crazy, if you want that trans they will sell a kit without trans, just tell them what you have

Looks like it is almost 2" shorter than the Tremec. Might make for an easier installation and better C1 driveline angle?

Default 5t

Ive never seen a T5, but their web site calls this a 5T , so maybe it is an all new type of trans made by them? The web seems to say it has a smaller case and it doesn't look like any other....but i'm not an expert. As to Gearvenders, aren;t they the ones who took over the SS700? I'd call both for better info! jdk971,

Here's a distributor of the SS700 5 speed (5th gear is overdrive):

http://shiftsst.com/gm-corvette-c2-1...gt-700-5-speed

I have this tranny, purchased from Keisler (perfect fit kit) and installed by Precision Rod & Customs http://www.precisionrod.com/

I have over 13,000 miles on this tranny...no gear clash/tight and right.

Should you want to use this shop for your install, call Chris Nash @ 865-453-3582.
Shane, one of their mechanics, knows his stuff.

It sure would not hurt.......

I helped wmf62 install his SS700, and the engine had to be removed to install the trans in his 62.

Would be good if we could get more info out of McLeod.

Chuck,

Here's what a T5 looks like . . . and how you put one in a C2!

I have in the garage, a 91mdl T-5 trans all fresh, with a advance adapter bellhousing for small block chevy and clutch fork for Z-bar. It has never been installed in any thing. I would take $1000 for it, I would stand behind the trans 1000%
