TH350 in a C1 - Who has done it ??
I'm helping my friend with installing a 400ci sb and a TH350 in his 58. The car is a 10 from 10ft but a great driver. He's owned it for 20 years but the 302 and the M21 Muncie the previous owner installed are pretty tired.
Our only concern is if tunnel mods will be necessary. I hope someone here has been there and done that. I received some good direction a couple of weeks ago from forum members regarding the transmission swap in my C2. Hopefully someone will have an answer.
Many Thanks

The biggest challenge was building a mounting point for the shifter, since the tail housing does not have shifter mounting bosses.
What I did was use a piece of 1/4 steel to use as the trans mount adapter plate (just like the plate used on 1962 Corvettes). I cut the plate such that it had an extension off to the left. The extension became a mounting location for my original shifter.
Also, don't forget that you will need a trans cooler, and need to run cooling lines.
Not a big deal, pretty easy swap.

I keep hoping that someday the Federal Govt will pass legislation which makes it illegal to have an auto tranny in a Corvette, or ANY performance car for that matter.

To DZ, sometimes the automatic swap allows some of us to be able to keep driving our toys. In my case I opted to replace my tranny rather than my knee. Ten years ago I would have agreed with you.

I just removed the TH350 in my 1960 and put a 4 speed back in to its original configuration. As others have already stated, there were no tunnel mods necessary for the TH350.
Whoever installed the TH350 (before we bought it) used a rear trans mounting plate just like the factory mounting plate for a 1962 Corvette, only mine was a little thicker. I would anticipate you would need that plate also.
As far as the shifter goes, I'm not familiar with the C-2 shifter that was also previously mentioned. I used a floor mounted shifter from Shiftworks. I believe it was the #SW280-R15 shown about 3/4 down on this page:

I like that shifter because I was able to use the original plate and boot and it very closely resembled a factory look IMO. You can see a picture in my photo galley if you're interested in going that way.

With the paddle shifted 8 speed automatics I'd bet within the next few years manual trannies will be as rare as curb feelers on new performance cars. Right now the C7 Corvette sales show 40% of the cars have manual transmissions. Buyers lined up big time for the 8 speed Z06's when they were released, and the auto tranny equipped Z06's outperformed the manual equipped cars in the quarter mile tests.

That auto trans is a fair amount faster than the m7 trans. See link below. It works very well on the track courses also.

My car should be produced week of august 10th.

I got one knee in Apr (the other one will be in Jan), and kept the Muncies and Richmond 5sp. I'll be hammering gears until they close the lid.

No test drives, but you may touch the car if you bring a me a naked (human female) virgin as an offering.
Here is a vid of stock Auto car, on stock tires.
I love the 175 MPH in the straights.
Below is GM website mockup of what my car should look like. Sometime in Sept delivery seems a looong way off...

I want to replace the TH350 automatic transmission from the 1961 Corvette 4 speed manual. Which th350 should I buy in that case? In addition, please tell us about torque converters, joint yokes, transmission mounts, etc. Does TH350 have three different lengths?
