Default Original Corvette Wheel weights

I'm looking for any information on Corvette original wheel weights, pictures are helpful as well. Perhaps some here have originals still installed? I'm guessing the best place to look would be the spare tire wheels? What type "ends" do they have and what manufacturers markings are stamped on them?

TIA

Are you saying that is what is on your original untouched wheel?

Or, is this incomplete judges information that has been blanketed as the ONLY supplier? There were at least five different makers. I'm looking for clues that name the names of manufacturers other than Bada (micro).

Don't have a untouched wheel. Just going by what I have been told.

There are 2 of them on the original spare tire from my 66 vert, 2 ozs each labled Micro.

Thanks for the info and pictures! Those weights look untouched and also noted the 2.0 on both sides of the Micro. I'm also trying to determine if those weights marked with a letter on the left side (example "B") were used originally by GM?

Here are some macro views of one of them. Left, middle and right side.
I also checked with a magnifying glass and do not see any letters.
These are definitely originals.

Too bad that they're not mounted on the inside of the wheel where they are supposed to be - might have some credibility then.

Sorry to have confused you with my post. The letter would not be found on the style in your photo but found in place of the left side "2.0"

I was wondering about that. AIM calls for inside only correct?

BINGO! That's one. Thanks Leif!

Let's try to get this point across that Micro isn't the only weight to be judged without note or deduction.

There's been a lot of discussion about this subject over on the NCRS Technical Discussion Board. You might want to look over there.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but the other day my friend took his tires & wheels to a tire place to have them rebalanced. He requested the weights be installed on the inside and they said you can't do that on a steel wheel, only for alum. Or mags. Has to do with wheel dynamics in the balancing process.

Never heard of that. Can anyone shed some light on this?

With the weights on the inside, you can correct static balance (up/down). If there is a dynamic imbalance problem (wobble), you sometimes have to go to both sides of the wheel.

6.70X15 and 7.75X15 tires may not have been as prone to dynamic problems as later day wide tires but the steel rims vs machined aluminum probably would have.

Then again, if a customer complained his Corvette tires were out of balance, maybe the Service guy told him "they all do that". Common practice back then on a lot of complaints.

Larger audience here.

Here is a shot of what you might find in an old salvage yard.

As Keith said, Micro in the middle, and ounces on EACH end (not ounces on one end and grams on the other). Also, the ends must have "wings" to them as seen in the wonderful close up pics posted in this thread. ARA

Not you too Ara? Keep an open mind, micro is not the only acceptable wheel weight. This thread will hopefully continue to reveal the many other suppliers.

Check over at the NCRS forum. I'm sure someone has long ago written an extensive article on Vette wheel weights through the decades.

Been there Louie.

Both the author of the articles written for the NCRS Restorer and I are trying to show that Bada( micro) were not the only weight supplier.
Thanks for the reply.
