1963 split window at auction
There will be a 1963 saddle tan/tan split window at auction august 15th in Indiana.
The tach redlines at 5500 RPM, non air, the gas filler cover is missing as is front emblem. broken antenna, nice interior. I have not seen the car to inspect for frame rust/damage, body work, or correct numbers etc.
Reserve is $50,000.
Seems a bit lofty to me, but what do I know?

SWC bodies are going for $35K for restomods....
If the car is as described with no other 'bad news' lurking around; it may be a reasonable reserve... But, there are a LOT of variables at play...

All 1963s except 278 of them didnt have air. The 3 parts you mention cost about $150. Most splits these days routinely get $60k+, even NOMs and cars that arent that great. And you have no information good or bad.
What's lofty about that number? Have you followed the split window market in the last 3 years?

This car is a pig in the poke.
Frame damage would be the biggest factor, and it's in Indiana.
It had not run in 20+ years, although they claim the engine turns.
You think it's a bargain, gofer it.
You might want to do a check on what original replacement costs are for the missing parts.

And that right there is why even marginal cars fetch good money - the parts they do have are worth some coin.

Now, if you said the master cylinder or the glove box door or the correct gauges or the correct doors with raised handle pads or any of the rear window moldings were missing, then I'd start making calculations against value.
And, if you said the car was a "pig" and hadnt been started in 20 years in the original post when you asked for opinions, rather than stating it didnt have air and was missing a couple of cheap parts, again, you might have received a different answer.
I would still advise you look into the car. You might do well, they are valuable. Best of luck.

I said the car is a pig in the poke, since I had not seen anything but the pictures.
It looks like decent car, but missing a few items and there are many things that are unknown by me (and the seller who contacted me)
I'm really not interested in the car at this stage of my life.
Here is the pictures of the auction items, there is also a 85 ("runs good"
and a 96 LT1 car (engine is frozen up) Both are red.

Looks like it has potential. Like to see the engine compartment.
Thanks for the link.

On the other hand, could be solid and just need cosmetics, then you raise your paddle.

Apparently this guy liked toys, a lot, judging from the plane, cars, water craft and bikes he had. He died when a tree fell on him during storm. His family is selling his 'collection'
Thanks

How can a car youve never seen have a 50k lofty reserve? Fools with more money than brains are dropping serious money to get a split window. ANY split window. If I had a 63 coupe in BOXES id ask 50k the way some of these idiots are spending money. It could be the biggest turd in the lagoon, and some moron who thinks he has to have a 63 coupe will buy it. You watch.

For all we know, it's a mock up body on a rusted out frame with a truck engine.
I doubt it is, but unless I see and feel it, I'll keep my $$$.

If you think $50,000 is a lot of money you're really not in the game at this point. Right now everyone is looking at the cars coming up for auction in Monterey in a couple of weeks.
Domestic cars are pretty flat at this point so it'll be interesting to see what Corvettes bring. I keep hoping my Corvettes will start acting like my 911 and go crazy.
The Monterey auctions will give us a really good indication as to where the market is going.

so you'd drop $50 K on a car you've never inspected or never had inspected by an expert?

Looks like a good complete car to me well worth the time to investigate further, not everyone wants a NCRS car. I also like the looks of those old outboard motors.
