Default Rear axle ID decode help needed

Hello all, I have an early '64 roadster, 327/300, 4 speed and I'm trying to decode the rear axle. Stamped in the housing is:

O H O 2 3 W 9 E 1

None of the books I have show this code. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Any chance you can get a pic of the stamping for us to check out? With all the years that have passed since your 64 was new, good chance the differential could have been changed out but I'm wondering if that 'OH' isn't really a 'CB' for a 3:36 ratio.

That sure does look like O H O alright. The slant and the spacing does look a bit off, as if someone sanded or machined down that pad/surface and stamped their own numbers. Have you done the rotation test to see what gear ratio it is? Also have you been able to find the casting date on the drivers side more towards the pinion yoke? Here's a pic of the stampings on the '68 vintage 3:08 posi that's in my 65 300 horse Coupe.

My take on it:

If the rotation gets you about 3 1/2 turns then

OH- 3.55

023- January 23rd

W- Warren plant

9- 1979

E- Eaton

1- 1st shift

"OH" is the axle code for the 3:55 rear in 78 and 79. It was also used in 80 for the 3:07, but this was the completely different aluminum Dana rear.
