Default The factory 4 seater C2 that almost was.

Ran across this while browsing one of my favorite car websites. I thought you guys might enjoy it. Fascinating stuff! I wonder how well it would have done. http://theoldmotor.com/?p=147300

I was going to say this whole 4-seater Sting Ray deal comes up on here about once every two months -- but I've actually never seen this particular article. Very Interesting.

Sometimes a prototype really does cause the right decision to be made!!

Another part of the story is that when the prototype was shown to upper GM management, one of the execs got in the back seat and damned near couldn't get out. Larry Shinoda said that the look on his face spelled "doom" for the 4-seat Corvette project . . . much to just about everyone's great relief. It was ungainly-looking at best, and as the article stated, the Buick Riviera (and to some extent the Pontiac Grand Prix) made it unnecessary.

If Mike Terry or Brett read this then I expect to see one in a year or so at Amelia Island...

Interesting that the car had "Fuel Injection" emblems with the Powerglide transmission and the low red line tach.

It wasn't a "car" - it was a Styling mockup built on an armature for a full-size clay model.

Thank you John. I didn't want to jump in here, but......I had always heard that the managers who had seen it thought that it was: "Neither fish nor fowl."
