Default Intake Manifold Contradicting Numbers

I have a 1965 convertible with the original numbers matching 300 hp 327, I was looking into the carburetor because it is a holley and i know the 65 300 hp came with a carter afb. In my inquiry to why it has a holley I looked up the intake manifold numbers 3872783 and the numbers indicate that it is a 1966 300hp intake but the date stamped A 8 5 indicates it is made january 1965, much too early for the serial code to say its a 1966. I have attached photos of the casting numbers and if anyone knows about this I would love to know what is up with these numbers.

Interesting question. Colvin's "Corvette by the Numbers" says it's for 1966 and 67 327/300 hp applications, but that it was also used extensively as a service replacement.

I think that may be what the "2" below your casting number indicates.

Perhaps your car had a replacement intake manifold at some point?

Edit - the reference also says it accepted either a Carter or Holley depending on the application.

Edit #2 - the '65 327/300 hp came originally with a 3844459 intake and a Carter carb. I think somebody back when wanted a Holley carb on that car and changed out both the intake and carb to make that happen.

What is the number on the Holley air horn? Would it be 3884505 List 3367?

There are a few numbers on the airhorn, there is 6R 7809 next to the choke and on the back of the choke housing there is 80457-2 and below that a 2948

It does sound like someone replaced the intake and carb along the way. A lot of years have passed since 1965. By the way, welcome to the Corvette Forum, how about posting up some pics of your Glen Green 65 Roadster?

I believe 80457 translates to 600 cfm model 4160, but I don't know the application.

Numerous applications, most pertinent here is 1966 - 69 Chevrolet 327 and 350. Actually I think that's probably an after market replacement carb.

I understand that the carb and intake are not correct originals but its still unclear why the 1966 intake manifold is date stamped with a January 1965 date and why does it have the big H on it

A guess - the foundry started producing parts for the 1966 production run - which began in September 1965 - early to stockpile parts and have time for production of other castings as well?

H is for the Holley application?

Default My 65 Roadster has the exact manifold and Holley carb as well

My 65 corvette roadster has the same manifold and Holley carburetor. I was also wondering whether someone swapped them, is it possible Chevrolet configured them this way?
