Default Machine shop estamant opinion

I have never took a engine to the machine shop, this 350 was the first I have taken in to rebuild
I took it and the heads to the shop. The engine I dropped off was in shortblock state, I kept the cam and lifters and I will do the pump and windage tray, pan, heads intake ect re-assemble.
As far as the heads they are getting all new valves, and all new springs, 2 valve seats? and new poly locks. they are old school 461s. they were fully assembled when I dropped them off, picking them up the same.
The engine is 4inch bore, it is the basic rebuild but I need 2 sleeves and 2 pistons 11:1, he said seal pro makes a piston identical to the other six, all rings and bearings, he did not say anything about the crank as far as polishing or?
It is staying 4 inch bore and i will be picking it up in shortblock form.

Its a 70 LT1, it did not come in a car, it was bought as crate engine, it was sitting outside for 20 plus years? while it set the #2 and #4 intake valves were open, hence the 2 sleeves and 2 valve seats.
Does $1300 seem reasonable? also turning the flywheel.
Thanks in advance done a goggle everything was how to not how much.

I don't think that price is out of line.

Good luck on the project...

Where are you located and who is the shop? Maybe someone here has used them before and could provide feedback (good/bad). I've read threads where people were getting work done, engine, body, etc., and it went downhill. But then again if things go well, it could be a place that others close by could go to.

She is a liftime project, that girl (isabel) likes for me to pick her up at school in it (1st grade). She is amazed that you crank the windows up and down. She is my world...

I am in White House TN, the shop (Day Enterprise) is in Millersville its 5 min away, He works a lot for 31W racing, they are not NASCAR level, but pretty big operation.
I have dropped cars and parts in shops for 25 years, you know how sometimes you get a grumpy old man. or the burnt out mechanic, Not the case there he is super nice!

Make sure the weight of the two new pistons is the same as OEM.

If it was me I would find a block that doesn't need sleeved. 4-bolt 350 are way too common

Of course an easy way to insure this is to ask them to balance the rotating assembly. In my view it would be money well spent. Even if you have no intent to spin it past 5000 rpm's it will ensure the engine spins smoothly, more efficiently and last longer.

Good luck... GUSTO

Yes they are very plentiful, 4 bolts are getting hard to find around here? This engine is a 70LT1 crate engine, meaning it never came in a car and has no vin# on the pad. It is not a factory replacement, it is over the counter, like if you went and bought a zz4 today, I bought it complete carb to pan, it has the wrong carb, dizzy, fan clutch, I want to put it back just like it was including the smog stuff 2182 cam even rebuilding the water pump, starter, alternator. I even wanted to keep a 4 inch bore and use the pistons as well. only difference in 70-72 LT1 are the pistons.
About a year ago I started buying some older/nostalgia parts,
something about the older parts I enjoy. For instance I have a DZ intake on my 69 camaro, I just think that almost 50 years it still going and going well. we all like different things i guess

I don't see anything wrong with a couple of sleeves. An original block like that with the right casting date and a usable 4" bore is probably pretty rare today.

If it was original to the car I would say go for it. But it's just a NOM I will agree the cool factor is way up there Good luck with it.

There is nothing wrong with a sleeved block. On occasion I have sleeved
both six and eight cylinder blocks back to standard in all cylinders to save blocks. With a sleeve you know how thick the cylonder wall is when you are done. And you can bore the sleeve oversize if you need to.
