Default 65 Exhaust Kit

Still trying to get this rolling chassis finished so I can get the body on....trying to have it ready to be painted by spring of next year.

Anyway, I'm going to install a complete exhaust system (2") and I see that one of the parts suppliers mentions that the original exhaust was welded but they offer a convenience kit that allows you to clamp the exhaust on. My question(s) is, how hard is it to put the welded system on and is there any advantage to either?

Thanks guys!!!

If you have the body off, as these cars were built, I cannot imagine that it would be hard to install a welded system, or the factory would have used clamps instead. Maybe JohnZ or other experts will come along to correct me.

I would think that shipping for a welded system might be spendy? I would be interested in what you find out.

Not really any 'harder' to install the one piece rear exhaust pipes with mufflers.
Differences include:
Originals were one piece rear exhaust pipes and mufflers.
You won't notice any clamps when viewed from the rear of the car on the 'one piece'.
You can achieve the same look as no clamps by welding the joint.
There will be extra cost in shipping the 'one piece'.

On a different note, if you have the body off, why not have the body painted BEFORE you put it back on the frame?

Most welded exhaust systems fit fine but if the guy that welded the muffler to pipe is off a bit it will drive you crazy aligning the tips. I have read that some systems are made not welded just for this reason and after fitting get it welded.

Thanks guys!!! The body is off and I never thought about having it painted before I put the body on....now I something else to think about....a good thing.

I will get back with y'all and let you know what the shipping costs are. I received a 10% off and free shipping from both Corvette America and Zip....but not sure if that includes the welded system or not.

Thanks,

Looks like if I go through Corvette America (using the Code SUPER) there's no shipping charges on either the welded or clamped exhaust systems. Through ZIP they charge $18 for Oversize Package. I can get the welded system for only $16 more through CA than the clamped one through ZIP. No brainer!!!

Thanks,

Ordered from Corvette America and the packaging is from Corvette Central. When I opened the box, today, one of the mufflers had a dent. From the pictures should I have it replaced or do y'all think it will be okay?

Thanks Nowhere Man!!! I guess it's just a little disappointing to receive something slightly damaged.

Thanks,
