Thanks for the pics Jim. Joe's intake is a work of art.
I've got these handy. I'm sure Joe has some more. The tricky part was the addition of 1/4"-3/8" of material on top of the port openings so it would cover the ports in the heads. We would have removed more plenum but it was getting pretty light and we didn't want to make it crack. So far it's held up well!

Right car? Not sure if you're referring to the year, or the fact that this one has a stick.

Doug, I've been away from my cars for a while, mostly due to a lack of time and Army-induced poverty. BTW, I finally installed the gas tank vent hose I got from you 7-8 years ago. It never made it onto the 62 (I've done a few engine swaps on the 62 since then, but pulling the fiberglass cover was too much work to install a vent hose). So, I installed it on the 57 when I was changing tanks.

Congrats on the in the most elite Corvette group
Wes,
You are now in the most elite of the Corvette drivers group...2 x 4 WCFBs. Here are a couple of pics how to do the intake upgrade.
It is all easy hand work with the wood working tools. Text me 713 480 7587 and we will talk thru the intake.
I still have those ported heads you sent me before you deployed, want them ?
Reb is why the 57 started right up.

Joe, I'll give you a call this weekend. Reb's came a long ways from the days he used to swing from my cherry picker and kick axles into the side of the '62. He's not half bad with a Mig, either.
If we can get the 57 drivable over the next two weekends, we're going to try to drive it to TX in October.
With regards to the heads, I'm not sure where I'd put them, I've got a couple pairs of 461X heads, and some 461 and 462 heads in the garage. If anything, I need to start getting rid of the stuff I got squirreled away...

Guys, when I pulled the Edelbrock Torquer off of the '68 383 in my '61 that has '65 FI heads, I noticed that the ports were a good match. When I overhauled the 2x4 set-up that came with the car, I noticed how small the ports were on the Winters intake, compared to the Edelbrock. I installed the original 2x4 intake anyway, and the car runs very well, but I can't help thinking I'm leaving some power on the table with the smaller port intake. That said, the low-end response is excellent, and it screams all the way thru the power band. I suspect if I were to re-install the aftermarket intake with it's Holley 700 carb, I would pick up more power.....but the original dual four set up is too cool not to use. So, how much performance gain from massaging the oem Winters 2x4 intake? And what about jetting and exhaust mods to go with it?

Melting Slicks
I picked a '57 up a couple months ago that had been parked since 2000. I swapped the gas tank and sending unit, installed a battery, checked the oil, topped the radiator and it fired right-up. The previous owner said the carbs needed rebuilt, because it wouldn't hold an idle. Not sure why, but the idle screw was turned damn near all the way in. I backed-it off, and the car ran fine once warmed up. Not sure why it was set that way, maybe the guy was trying to run on the 15 year old gas. I still need to go through the brakes and electrical system before I can drive it.

Unfortunately, it is a dark blue from a 2000 Vette. I would rather the car were any 1957 factory Corvette color, than an incorrect one.

Wes,
1.I have fast tracked your Texas green cards so you can move and work in Texas; we have very strict policies on people from CA coming here, we do not want them to screw-up a good thing.
2.When you get moved, we need to have an intervention with Jim (427 HotRod). He has gone to the dark side, he is addicted to both Turbos and FI !!!! He has all the signs: quiet, hides in his shop, does not drive the car, has not been seen south of I-20.
A twelve step program is probably inadequate, since a dual dependency he will need a 24 step program.
Joe
He even has a weenie cam in the car with less than .500" lift !
