If you don't like the painted look.. and you don't like the rusted look... what is your goal?

I've used that Calyx paste for years. Yes it does rub off if you stick your hand down in there. But it looks great and is very easy to apply. Next year I plan on pulling the manifolds (intake and exhaust)and having them powder coated though.

If you want to go the the trouble then 'jet hot' is the best; POR-15 works great too and lasts for years and you don't have to send parts off to get the work done.
I've got Calyx on my '61...one drop of water and the stuff washes away, remove the shielding to change spark plugs and that gray, sticky goo gets all over you and gives you zombie arms.
I don't hate it enough to remove it, don't like it enough to ever use it again.

Very nice! Those exhaust manifolds look natural and great for show. Not too dull and the right shade of gray. And some over spray is correct anyway. That's one finely detailed frame off '67 big block. I'd like to see a pic of your intake manifold finished also. Was that powder coated? Your rocker covers appear to be painted.

The intake was a dummy intake to get the engine back on the frame and keep the engine closed while the original intake was being reskinned. Jerry MacNeish did the reskinning. Engine and valve covers were painted. Valve covers were primed and wet sanded painstakingly.
Best,
